Johanna began practicing yoga in her hometown of South Beach at the age of 16. After walking into her first yoga class Johanna left feeling better than she had in years. Her body mind and spirit were at last settled momentarily in the same place. She has practiced various styles, including Power Yoga, Jivamukti, and Vinyasa but has found that the Ashtanga method as taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois resonates with her most and has committed to that tradition. In 2010 she took her first 50 hour Kids Yoga training at Green Monkey, a (Yoga Alliance) certified school with Suzanne Albertson . Shortly after, she took a 200 hour Power Yoga teacher training with Paul Toliusziz of Green Monkey, Miami.
She has studied Ashtanga yoga extensively with Tim Feldmann, Kino Macgregor, and Patrick Nolan who assisted her in creating a strong foundation for her practice. Johanna made her first trip of many to come to Mysore, India in 2012 to study at the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute with R. Sharath Jois. She continues to study and fuel her passion for the practice with senior teachers in workshops and conferences. Johanna believes that the practice itself is her greatest teacher.
Johanna teaches a class that is inspired by the power of breath, softening/opening of the heart, and trusting in one’s own strength, while being compassionate, intentional and present. Yoga has inspired her to share its benefits with the whole community, regardless of age, weight, body type, skill level, injury, etc. Everybody is different and every body can benefit from yoga. Her classes are a safe space for students to move deeper into their bodies, desires, and even minds using a mixture of creative sequencing, verbal and physical adjustments, and life affirming themes.
Johanna teaches kids and adults all over south florida in different studios and schools.
